Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the BIGGEST movie stars of all-time.
Over the last 13 years only 3.4% of the top grossing films featured Asian American or Pacific Islander leading actors.
44 films had an Asian American or Pacific Islander lead. 14 of these films featured Dwayne Johnson in a leading role. Dwayne is not just a Pacific Islander star he is one of the BIGGEST movie stars of the past two decades.
Since 2001 Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has appeared in one movie or more each year. In 2013 he had five huge films within the same year.
There is no secret to his success. We have watched him in plain sight as he rose to wrestling stardom in 1996. Just three years later in 1999 he emerged as an actor. It did not take long until “The Rock” started making a name for himself as “Dwayne Johnson” in films. In 2001 he had a small role in “The Mummy Returns” but that led to a leading role in the 2002, “Scorpion King”.
Dwayne Johnson has been in or associated with 59 films. The hit TV show “Young Rock” is based on his life story. He is ranked at #6 of the highest grossing actors of all-time. His movies have earned $11.4 BILLION and counting….WORLD-WIDE
WHY ARE STUDIOS & DIRECTORS DRAWN TO WORKING WITH DWAYNE JOHNSON FOR SO MANY MOVIES?
Dwayne strives to be successful at everything he does. Perhaps these are a few of the reasons why he also WINS at everything he does!
HE IS COMPETITIVE….and he WINS!
HE WORKS HARD….Nothing stops him!
HE DREAMS BIG & FOLLOWS HIS DREAMS!
HE IS UNSTOPPABLE!
If you are looking for movies that the whole family can see, you can never go wrong with movies starring Dwayne Johnson.
Here is a list of some of his most popular films that I highly recommend:
This is a fantastic Disney animated film that the whole family can enjoy.
MOANA, an epic adventure about a spirited teen who sets sail on a daring mission to save her people. Along the way, Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once mighty demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), and together they cross the ocean on a fun-filled, action-packed voyage. Bring home the movie full of heart, humor, and oceans of bonus extras!
Moana is one of my Grand Daughters favorite films, so I found other Moana related goodies for her. She especially loves the soundtrack, the karaoke CD, and the Moana collectibles.
Jumanji is a fantasy, adventure film franchise that started in 1995.
The film also gave birth to a popular animated television series that aired from 1996-1999. In 2017 Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart & Jack Black brought Jumanji back to theatres. It was one of the highest grossing non-Disney and non- comic book films since Transformers. Due to the success of this sequel (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), there was another film in the series released in 2019. Dwayne, Kevin, and Jack were back in Jumanji: The Next Level with another box office success story.
Jumanji centers around four teens that discover a 16-bit video game called Jumanji in their school’s basement. Upon opening the game, the teens find themselves transported inside the game’s jungle world. Each teen is assigned an avatar. There is an explorer (Dwayne Johnson) with huge muscles, cartographer (Jack Black), a zoologist (Kevin Hart), and a beautiful martial artist (Karen Gillan). The four of them must survive a series of dangerous adventures to get back to the real world.
Jumanji will take the whole family on an adventure of a lifetime. Watch the first Jumanji and you will be wanting more so get all the Jumanji related films and products here: All Things JUMANJI from DeepDiscount.com
In 2011 Dwayne Johnson joined the 4th most successful movie franchise of all-time!
When Dwayne Johnson joined the popular “Fast & Furious” franchise it kicked hit star-power into high-gear!
Fast Five (2011)…Fast & Furious 6 (2013)…Furious 7 (2015)… The Fate of the Furious (2017)…The Fast & the Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Dwayne brought the character of Luke Hobbs to the franchise in “Fast Five.”
Hobbs is a highly trained and skilled bounty hunter for the D.S.S. (Diplomatic Security Service). The character of Luke Hobbs gave birth to a spin-off of the “Fast” franchise in “The Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw.
I realize that this feature is dedicated to Dwayne Johnson, but I am going to recommend seeing ALL the “Fast & Furious” films. If you LOVE Dwayne in these films there are double DVD sets that contain the films that he starred in.
Here is Dwayne’s “Fast Five” and “Fast & Furious 6” collection if you just want to start with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s entry into this EPIC franchise.
This is one of my personal favorite Dwayne Johnson films.
This biopic is about a young teen named Saraya-Jade Bevis (Florence Pugh) from a small town in England who was pushed into joining her family’s business. That business was pro-wrestling. She spent a year learning the ropes of wrestling from her family and then she was ready to enter the ring as “Paige.” She soon became a rising star for the WWE. Dwayne Johnson was a co-star and the Executive Producer of “Fighting With My Family.”
A group of personal trainers decide to steal the American dream.
I have two reasons for liking this Michael Bay hilarious crime comedy….DWAYNE JOHNSON & MARK WALBURG. I love them both and they are magical together in this action, adventure, comedy. When a group of personal trainers (Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie) decide to steal the American Dream, they get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. Now, living large will take everything they’ve got in the unbelievable true story that critics are calling “Goodfella’s on steroids”……and “outrageously entertaining.”
The OG “Top Gun….Tom Cruise” soars back into theaters in “Top Gun Maverick” on May 27, 2022.
Will this sequel live up to the original Blockbuster of 1986…..TOP GUN?
Have you ever wondered, what makes a film a BLOCKBUSTER?
“A film that is a cultural phenomenon… a fast-paced exciting source of entertainment…films that audiences interact with and talk about afterward…films that bring viewers back to the theater to see them again and again, just for the thrill……..These films are called “BLOCKBUSTERS”
The first film to be called a “BLOCKBUSTER” was “Jaws” in 1975. I featured Jaws in a previous post in July 2021.
After the success of Jaws, movie studios were in a battle to see which film would be the NEXT BIG BLOCKBUSTER!
Since we now know what a “BLOCKBUSTER” is, we also know that this is the “ONE MOVIE” we “MUST-SEE” as soon as it hits theatres. Even if we do not typically see a lot of movies we are sure to head to the theatre when the newest BLOCKBUSTER is released!
Most studios wait till the summer to release their BIG “BLOCKBUSTERS” but since we were shut-ins for nearly two years they are dropping these films early and at a rapid pace.
There are several BIG FILMS set for release in 2022….CAN and WILL THEY ALL BE BLOCKBUSTERS?
The first GIGANTIC film of 2022 (touted to be a BLOCKBUSTER) is “TOP GUN MAVERICK”. The film is set for release on May 27, 2022.
“TOP GUN MAVERICK” is the sequel to the ….BIGGEST BLOCK BUSTER FILM Of 1986…“TOP GUN”
The original film starred a young Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Kelly McGillis. After 36 years we will see Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer back in their original roles alongside our new stars, Jennifer Connelly, and Miles Teller. I am thrilled that “Top Gun Maverick” is finally being released.
I fondly remember the rush I got in 1986 as I watched Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) soar through the clouds in the most intense flying maneuvers ever in “Top Gun”
Pete Mitchell was a young, handsome, confident, arrogant, courageous, precise, and highly skilled aviator….AND HE WAS A REBEL that did things “his way”
“Top Gun” fans loved being along for his “wild rides” in the cockpit or on the streets with his “Ninja” motorcycle. The movie had just the right amount of Drama, Action, Adventure and Romance to make it soar at the box office.
In “Top Gun Maverick” we will meet up with Pete Mitchell again, 30 years later as he continues to serve as a top Navy test pilot and flight instructor. We shall see if it is as good as the original and if it too, will be memorable 36 years later.
Before I head to the theater on May 27th to see “Top Gun Maverick”, I will go through my ritual of watching the original film that started it all “Top Gun”.
If you would like to view and own this Blockbuster film from 1986, you can find it here……
Are you excited about the Academy Awards? Are you going to an Academy Award viewing party or are you possibly hosting a party?
I usually attend my friend’s annual Academy Award party. Each guest brings a dish or drink that is inspired by one of the nominated films. A prize is given to the best and most creative dish…taste and presentation is EVERYTHING!
We also submit our ballots of who we feel will WIN each category. I am usually very good at picking the winners. Each year I try to see all the nominated films. Prior to the pandemic I went to four-to-five films every week. I love going to see films at a great theatre with huge screens and booming (but crystal clear) sound. It took me a while to warm up to loving films in the comfort of my home, but I am totally on board with it now.
I love being able to stop the film when needed, to replay the best scenes and to yell and scream when I feel like it.
I am very excited about this year’s nominees. There were so many beautiful films and dynamic performances. I am having a difficult time choosing the winners for this years Academy Awards party.
I have not seen every nominated film this year, but I do intend on seeing them all. Several of the films will be added to my list of favorites.
Whenever I see a masterful and passionate performance it usually leads to watching or re-visiting the previous work and films from that actor.
Here is one of the Academy Award nominated films that led to revisiting other films and performances…
CODA is an acronym that means “child of deaf adult”.
Ruby (Emilia Jones) is the CODA of the Rossi family. She is the only hearing member of the family.
Her father, mother and brother are all deaf. The family owns and operates a fishing business in Massachusetts. Ruby works on the family fishing boat while attending high school.
After noticing a boy she likes named Miles, joining the school’s choir, Ruby decides to join too. As a child she could not sing well so she was extremely nervous to audition in front of other students. When it was her turn to audition in front of the entire choir, she ran out of the room. When she eventually returned, the choir teacher had her sing alone and only to him. He discovered that Ruby had a beautiful singing voice, and she was a gifted singer.
The teacher paired Ruby with Miles for a duet to be performed at their upcoming school recital. Of course, Ruby was nervous again since she was paired with the boy she liked. The duet was not going well so the teacher suggested that they rehearse separately and then again together at a later time.
Miles and Ruby decided to get together at her house to practice singing their duet. While practicing Miles hears Ruby’s parents having very loud sex. Since her parents were deaf they did not know that Ruby and Miles were in the house. Miles told his best friend what happened, and he spread the story around the school. Ruby was very upset that the school now knew about her parents. Ruby and Miles decided to go their separate ways but eventually Miles apologized for telling his friend and they joined together again to work on their duet.
While Ruby was getting more involved with school, Miles and her rehearsals for the upcoming recital, her parent’s business was imploding due to a lot or restrictions and fees that were placed on the local fishermen. Ruby started to split her time between helping her family and working with the choir teacher to prepare for her recital and an audition for the school that she set her sights on.
As her passion grew for music and performing she developed a strong desire to attend the Berklee College of Music. But being the only hearing person in her family she was worried about leaving them, especially when the family was going through financial hardships. The family was just about to have their fishing license revoked but the city decided to give them another chance. The opportunity to keep their business license came with some strict rules. The Rossi’s must have a hearing and speaking person on board while operating their fishing boat. This was due to their ability to hear the fog horns and to keep them from danger. When Ruby heard the rules set forth by the licensing bureau she decided to stay and work with her family. She was willing to put her dreams aside for her family and their business.
When the time came for the school recital Ruby performed and her family went to watch her. Although they could not hear her they watched as the audience erupted in applause and gave her a standing ovation for her performance. When they returned home there is a very touching scene between Ruby and her father that brought me to tears. After seeing Ruby’s joy and passion for performing her family urged her to audition for the Berklee College of Music.
At this point I feel that you MUST see the ending of this film for yourself.
I will warn you that you may even shed a tear or two yourself. This is a beautiful, important film that the whole family can enjoy. The mother (Marlee Matlin), father (Troy Kotsur), and Brother (Daniel Durant) are all deaf actors. Hollywood is not always known for using authentic deaf actors when needed but for CODA they got it right. This little film that was purchased after a screening at the Sundance Film Festival is now a front-runner for the 94th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 26, 2022.
It was 36 years ago when Marlee Matlin was seen in her first acting role. It was her first performance, first movie, first Academy Award nomination and the FIRST time a deaf performer WON the highly coveted award for Best Actress. Marlee Matlin took home the Golden Globe and the Academy Award at age 21 which also made her the youngest actor to win “Best Actress”.
She won for her magnificent debut and leading performance in “Children of a Lesser God”.
Sometimes one good thing leads to another…and after seeing CODA I will be revisiting “Children of a Lesser God” soon.
I highly suggest and recommend seeing the film that made Marlee Matlin a member of the elite group of women that will forever have the words “ACADEMY AWARD WINNER” after their name.
You can find the award-winning film “Children of a Lesser God” and Marlee’s Academy Award winning debut performance from 1986 and all her films and TV performances at www.deepdiscount.com
I am hoping to see “CODA” walk away with WINS at this years Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 27.
My Predictions… BEST PICTURE: CODA BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: CODA BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Troy Kotsur
After 36 years Troy Kotsur could be the next deaf and only deaf male actor to win an Academy Award.
I hope to see more from these great actors and more opportunities for the deaf community in front and behind the cameras.
CODA is not available on DVD but you can stream it on Apple TV.
Children of a Lesser God is available on DVD here.
Jessica Chastain may have “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” but ALL eyes are on JESSICA after her BIG WIN at the 2022 SAG AWARDS
“And the winner for BEST FEMALE ACTOR in a LEADING ROLE goes to…JESSICA CHASTAIN”
When the nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role were released there was one film on the list that I needed to see immediately.
The film was “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” and it starred Jessica Chastain as Tammy Faye.
Tammy Faye Bakker and her husband were televangelists who founded the Christian PTL Club (Praise the Lord Club). The show ran from 1974-1989. It was also called “The Jim and Tammy Show.” The two TV Ministers became media moguls running their own empire…on their own network. They also had their own amusement theme park called Heritage USA. They were enormously famous and had a HUGE audience of fans who followed their every move.
Eventually scandals started to shatter their empire.
In 1987 Jim Bakker was accused of sexually assaulting one of his secretaries in a Florida hotel and he used money from the PTL Club to keep her quiet. When the news hit about Jim’s extramarital affairs the reactions from “PTL” fans were harsh and swift. Their audience and fan base quickly declined. Jim Bakker was forced to step down from The PTL Club and Jerry Falwell took control of the program.
Eventually The Bakker’s and their PTL finances were under investigation. Jim Bakker was indicted on 15 counts of wire fraud, 8 counts of mail fraud and 1 count of conspiracy. Jim Bakker was sentenced to 45 years in a federal prison. Tammy stood by Jim for three years before finally divorcing him. A year later Tammy remarried a family friend who had also collaborated with them.
In the film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” Jessica Chastain brings their true-life story back for all to see. She takes us through the rise and fall of their massive empire. We also get a glimpse into why fans adored Tammy Faye Bakker.
I was happy to see Jessica Chastain win the SAG Award for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.” Her transformation to Tammy Faye Bakker was brilliant. Since Tammy Faye was a singer, Jessica used her own voice to sing throughout the film. She proved that her talent goes beyond acting, JESSICA CAN SING!!!!
Here are some of the reasons I will always head to the theatre for JESSICA CHASTAIN
Jessica Chastain was first seen on a few TV shows. I am sure that I probably saw her on “E.R.,” “Law & Order” , “Til Death” or “Veronica Mars” in the early 2000’s. But I did not truly notice her until I saw an interesting looking trailer for a 2008 film called “Jolene.” In the trailer I noticed Dermot Mulroney and Chaz Palminteri who were two actors that I admired. So “Jolene” was a must-see film for me. After seeing the film, I had a NEW favorite female actor which was Jessica Chastain. I knew she was someone to keep my eye on so I checked often to see when her next film would be released.
Here are some of my favorite Jessica Chastain films
For Zero Dark Thirty, Jessica Chastain received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Actress. Jessica won the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Film.
This is my favorite film starring Jessica Chastain
The film was nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Adapted Screenplay”
Molly’s Game had 51 total nominations and 8 wins over the 2018 awards season.
This is the true story of Molly Bloom. She was headed towards skiing in the Olympics when she had a severe injury that ruined her dreams of competing. She moved to Los Angeles and decided to take a year off to fully recover before heading to law school. During the year she took on a few jobs. One was at “The Viper Room” where she was a cocktail server. It was not long until Molly was working as an assistant to high stakes poker games. After proving herself as an assistant she was eventually elevated to game-runner. She was now earning a hefty four million per year.
Molly took her exclusive, private, underground games to New York where they became the most popular but still underground high-stakes poker games in the world. The biggest celebrities. superstars, sports stars. business tycoons and moguls were coming to Molly’s games. Some of the world’s most wealthy people were sitting at Molly’s poker tables. She knew how to keep it private and luxurious for her guests. She treated her guests like royalty and a few of them were actual royalty. Everything was going fine for Molly until the Russian Mafia took notice of the money that was coming through Molly’s business. Soon she was the target of the mob and the FBI.
This film is worth owning and watching many times over….I will not spoil the ending, but I hope my brief description is enough to spark your interest in “Molly’s Game”
This is another one of my favorite Chastain films.
In this film she portrays a skillful assassin who works for a black op’s organization. Whenever a high-profile hit was needed, Ava often traveled around the world to do the job. She is tough, focused, highly skilled, efficient…beautiful, sexy but deadly!
This film will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend owning “AVA”
CONGRATS to JESSICA CHASTAIN on her Academy Award nomination for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
It’s available from my friends at DeepDiscount.com here.
Own it, Watch it and you will see why Jessica Chastain was nominated for the highest female actor award in 2022!
I happen to love the spring and Summer months. I am extremely excited about Daylight Saving Time that begins on March 13, 2022. I love the extra hours of daylight in the evening and the warmer weather that comes as we head into the summer months.
BUT….my FAVORITE SEASON is AWARD SHOW SEASON, and we are officially in it NOW!!!
We now know the nominees and with some award ceremonies we even know the WINNERS. This past week we had the NAACP IMAGE AWARDS on 2/26, and the SAG AWARDS (Screen Actors Guild Awards) on 2/27. We often look to the nominees and the winners of the SAG Awards to indicate who might take home the Oscars® at the Academy Awards. This year’s Academy Awards ceremony will be on March 27, 2022.
I was pleased with the nominees and the winners at the SAG awards.
There are a few actors, films, and television shows that I have become obsessed with, and I was happy to see them represented at the 2022 SAG Awards. Although some of the actors won for their outstanding performances over the past year, many of them will always bring me to the theatre each time they release a new movie. If I love an actor I will support ALL their work.
The Best Leading Actor (Will Smith) and Actress (Jessica Chastain) from the 2022 SAG Awards have had my attention throughout their careers. I want to shine a spotlight on some of their great performances that captured my heart and attention throughout the years.
WILL SMITH from a PRINCE (of Bel-air) to “KING RICHARD”
I was blessed and fortunate to meet Will Smith back in the 80’s when he was the rapper “Fresh Prince”, and his friend “Jazzy Jeff” was the DJ. These two met in 1985 when Jeff was the DJ at a house party on Will’s block in Philadelphia. Jazzy Jeff’s hype man for the party was late so Will stepped up to the mic to get the party jumpin.’ When the real hype man of the evening showed up, Jeff could only think about the chemistry that he had with Will on the mic. It did not take long before DJ JAZZY JEFF and the FRESH PRINCE was born, signed by a record label, and topping the charts. With their release of “He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper” they became multi-platinum rap-stars. They were also the first rappers to win a Grammy award for “Best Rap Performance” in 1989. They won for their hit single “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” Their category and award were not televised on TV which caused a lot of controversy.
Due to the duo’s success in 1990 the rapper “Will Smith” was cast as the lead of a new television sit-com called “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.
The show was a hit for NBC for six seasons.
Will Smith hits the BIG SCREEN in “Six Degrees of Separation”
In 1993 Will Smith was cast in his first film. It was based on a true story. The comedy, drama was adapted from a Pulitzer Prize nominated play called “Six Degrees of Separation.” Will Smith was cast in one of the leading roles as Paul, who was a charming con-artist who successfully convinced several high- profile and wealthy people in the eighties that he was the son of Sidney Poitier. One evening he showed up on the doorstep of the Kittredge family. Flan Kittredge was a prominent art dealer, and his wife Ouisa was a popular socialite. The young man Paul, claimed to be a college friend of their Ivy League children and he needed some help. He was invited into their home, and he quickly impressed them with his wit, articulate speech, impeccable taste, and manners. He also had literary and culinary skills that quickly had them believing that Paul was truly the son of the great actor, Sidney Poitier. It was not long until Paul was living in their home and borrowing money from the Kittredge family. This went on until Paul brought home a male hustler. Paul’s cover as a straight young man was blown when he was found in bed with the male hustler. He was asked to leave the Kittredge home.
Paul was a crafty and legendary con-artist that preyed on wealthy families and charmed himself into many homes in the upper East Side of New York.
In this film Will has a lengthy monologue that made me take notice of his acting skills in a whole new light. Will Smith was extremely convincing and skillful in his debut film performance. I left the theater in awe and boasting about Will Smith’s performance. Although Will Smith went on to make more hit records and songs, in my opinion it was “Six Degrees of Separation” that separated him from a rapper to an award-winning actor. Will has had many memorable roles in block-buster films but for me it will always be “Six Degrees of Separation” that defines his road to success and the Oscars on March 27, 2022.
You can own his first film “Six Degrees of Separation” and his latest Screen Actor Guild (SAG) WINNING and OSCAR NOMINATED performance in “King Richard” by clicking here…… “Six Degrees of Separation” (1993, R) “King Richard” (2021, PG-13)
As I’ve said before, we celebrate PRIDE all summer long. And before summer gives way to fall I am thrilled to honor two important musical dramas beginning with…
This 2018 biopic musical drama tells the story of the life of one of the GREATEST voices in rock, FREDDIE MERCURY and his band, QUEEN. Original members of Queen consulted on the film, but it has been noted that some details were changed or are out of sequence from the true timeline. I suppose this made for a more entertaining and compelling film. Apparently, millions of people worldwide did not mind the slightly altered story since it opened to sold out audiences. Hardcore Queen fans rushed to the theaters on opening night. Some of the loyal fans caught the flaws in the storyline but everyone seemed to agree that Rami Malek, became Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. The film began with the formation of Queen and followed their rise to fame up to their performance at Live Aid in 1985.
Word of mouth and massive press about the performance of Rami Malek kept the film in theatres for a long time. I remember seeing this film on opening week with a packed audience singing along with some of the most notable hits by Queen. In fact, this film was so popular that it came back to the theatres in a sing-along version.
Rami Malek won the Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. Bohemian Rhapsody won a total of four Oscars, numerous other awards and the highly coveted Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture-Drama.
Bohemian Rhapsody exceeded all expectations and earned over 900 million worldwide. Due to its success fans were anxious to see the next musical drama about the life of Sir Elton John. Both films and artists had remarkably similar lives since both men were rock stars during the same era, both are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, both men are gay and both are “LEGENDS”.
RAMI MALEK….became FREDDIE MERCURY
TARON EGERTON….became SIR ELTON JOHN
The film, Rocketman was also phenomenally successful and led to the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture for Taron Egerton’s portrayal of Sir Elton John.
If you love classic rock, you will love both films.
As we celebrate PRIDE, I celebrate the artistry of these enormously talented Gay SUPER-STARS of ROCK. Pick up their MUSIC, DOCUMENTARIES and MOVIES….crank up the volume and ROCK OUT!

Seinfeld (and more “Must See TV” binge-worthy shows)
One of the thrills of my life was going to tapings of Seinfeld…..But the BIGGEST thrill was seeing myself in some episodes. (YES you are reading this correctly…just keep reading)
From Thursday, July 5, 1989, through May 4, 1998 millions of fans gathered in front of their TV for Seinfeld and other “Must See TV” shows. This slogan was given to NBC’s Thursday night line-up of their most popular sitcoms and dramas. Shows like “Seinfeld”, “Friends”, “Will & Grace”, “Mad About You”, “ER” and “Frasier” were deemed as “MUST SEE TV” shows. All of these shows can be found due to syndication. You can find re-runs or you can go to paid streaming methods. But there is nothing like seeing them in the exact order in which they were originally aired. The best way to see these shows in 2021 is to get the complete “box set” series. Get your favorite snacks, some caffeinated drinks and “BINGE WATCH” every episode until you finish the series. Back in the day it took 180 weeks to get through the nine seasons of Seinfeld. But with the series box set you can watch as much as you want and when you want to watch it. If you need some good laughs, the Seinfeld series is for you.
During the long summer of weird TV shows and nothing but re-runs, get some binge-worthy series and program your own….“MUST SEE TV”.
Seinfeld was described as the show about nothing, yet it was the #1 show and is one of the most successful TV shows ever made. It was a ritual at work to discuss Seinfeld on Friday mornings after a great episode.
For those that may not know the series was created by the two brilliant comedic minds of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld.
It stars Jerry Seinfeld who is playing a somewhat fictional version of himself. The show brought us one of the most celebrated ensemble casts of all-time. Each week we would watch Jerry, who is a comedian, and his three close friends as they maneuver through daily life in Manhattan, New York.
There have been a few in theatres, but much less than we’re used to. It’s time to think about all the classic SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS coming to a TV near you!!!
Yesterday as I ventured out to a theater to see the new film “Joe Bell” I could not help but notice that
we were the only people at the box office for tickets to ANY film.
We walked into an empty lobby, and no one was at the snack bar. It was 2:00 on a Sunday afternoon. Pre-pandemic this would have been a peak hour on a Sunday with lines around the building to see several movies.
I looked at the list of movies that were playing and there were plenty of movies for kids, but the ticket-taker said that parents were just not bringing kids to see movies. So, we walked into our theater with the two other people that were there to see “Joe Bell”. The theatres lounge chair was very comfortable but wearing our mask during the entire movie was not.
Throughout the movie I could not stop thinking about how it was when I was a kid. I loved the special afternoon outing of going to a cool theatre to see a movie on a hot summer day.
Brutally Honest and touching performance by two Oscar winners
Taking a break from Summer Blockbusters for a minute to tell you about a love story. Supernova could have been the story of anyone, any couple, from anywhere on the planet but the British writer and director, Harry Macqueen gave us a tender and realistic story of a long-term relationship between two gay men.
Oscar winners, Colin Firth (Sam) and Stanley Tucci (Tusker) both give a touching and convincing performance of older men that have shared their love and life for over twenty years.
For anyone, gay or straight that has been in, or is currently in a long-term relationship,
this film will touch your heart and soul.
Both men are successful artists. Tusker is a writer that has been diagnosed with early onset dementia. He feels himself slipping away and is having difficulty finishing his latest novel. Sam is a concert pianist that has been putting his career on hold to take care of Tusker. He also wanted to spend quality time with Tusker as long as possible. But when Sam is asked to perform in another part of the country, they decide that one last road trip might be good for them. So, the two partners, crank up their old RV and set out towards the concert venue in the Lake District. Along their scenic journey they make a pit stop to visit and reconnect with family and friends.
The road trip seems to be just what their relationship needed. As they drive through the beautiful countryside of England, the two reminisce and relive old memories.
At night they stop to share their love of astronomy while gazing at the stars. Just like any other long-term couple on a road trip they bicker a bit too, but it always ends with hand holding, a little joke or a longing look into each other’s eyes. They both realize that their precious time together is fading fast so they try to make the most of every minute. Every decision the couple makes will impact both of their lives and they make many life-altering decisions. I’m now leaving it up to you to see the ending of the beautiful love story of “SUPERNOVA”
If you are in a long-term committed relationship, or if you are dreaming of one, Supernova is worthy of your time.

Just like all groups of people the LGBTQ community is proudly connected but we are also just like everyone else. We have diversity among our own group. We all have different likes, dislikes, habits, hobbies, etc. Each one of us has our own unique tastes in the arts. Therefore, within the umbrella of Gay, LGBTQ or Queer cinema there lies the same genres and sub-genres of films and music. I will try to write about several Gay themed, dramas, comedies, documentaries, etc.
I personally feel that Supernova is one of our best dramatic love stories. It was an honor sharing this one with you. As I’ve mentioned before, the Pride celebration doesn’t just last through June. It continues all summer long. Drop back soon to hear more about the wonderful stories, films, music or TV shows that are from the LGTBQ community.
